Hi Kev - what a great and relevant reading for me. Thank you! When I clear up some finances, I will look at a paid subscription, hopefully soon. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ» In the meantime, I love your decks! I received the Albano-Waite for Mother’s Day which I saw on one of your videos! I absolutely love the Oracle you used in this reading and would love to know the name. Thanks so much! It’s such a beautiful deck? I am going to enjoy working with it. Thanks so much for sharing. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ» I have been trying to study with the traditional RWS at least until I get comfortable enough to try other types of decks.

About five years ago, I was diagnosed with the first of three autoimmune and other chronic diseases. It all happened rather suddenly and has been quite the journey since. The most active at the moment are Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and IBS, and I am still not in remission. This has all taken a toll on me physically and mentally, with anxiety, depression, and zero attention span joining the mix. The depression manifested in my loss of doing things I loved. I started a second career writing children’s books in 2014 and managed to publish two books before Covid hit. Isolation was extra for me during that time, being immune compromised, and my writing stopped. I have not written a word since then.

Throughout this period, I rediscovered Tarot when scrolling on YouTube. Many years ago, I had a reading done and was quite impressed at the outcome. I had no contact with it again until all of this started. With my creativity severely impacted, I thought it might help me rediscover my purpose and find the joy that I once had. Tarot was calling and thus began my journey of collecting decks. As I mentioned, I have been doing a lot of studying (a little from here and a little from there) and not really trusting myself to read. I now have about 65 Tarot and Oracle decks! Apart from a beautiful art collection, I don’t have much to show for it. Sometimes I wonder if I am just not resonating with the right deck and that keeps me stuck. When I saw the Albano-Waite, there was something about it that spoke to me a little more than the others. I was hoping that tarot could also help life me up. My current challenge is figuring out the best way to learn since I think my creativity has taken my intuition on a vacation. I would love to hear if you have, in your experience, discovered the easiest way to learn and engage your intuition. I would really appreciate availing myself of your expertise. Thanks in advance. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

I would start by learning the basic meanings and using spreads. This helps structure and shape what the cards imply in their set position.

I would also practice daily a 3-card a day pull with these position theme/situation | blocker or what to be mindful of | advice or path forward. This is what I do.

Photograph the cards and write the reading in a journal. By writing it down, it helps commit to memory. Then, as you do this exercise more and more, you'll start strengthening your intuition.

One crucial key with Tarot, use open-ended questions. Stay away from yes/no, or questions that ask a specific like, Will I get a raise? Instead, ask, What can I do to get a raise?

See the difference?

Once you get the basics, start looking at the numbers, the colors, the symbols. It helps to expand the meaning of the cards in a way you won't find in books or web pages.

I need to update and add to this section. The goal was/is, not sure, make it more of a wiki-like structure here on substack for teaching style articles. It has both free and paid content. But it can help you start to learn the cards.

Hi Kev - thanks so much for sharing your wisdom with me and a great way to start practicing and learning. I can tell you one issue I would have right off the bat and that is to trust that my interpretation is correct. Maybe that’s where I would consult books or just keep trying to see if more info comes up? I am really excited to become a decent reader for myself and do struggle with the impact of the depression on my ability to learn. Fingers crossed! 🀞🀞One last question for now is, where did you acquire your Albano-Waite deck? There is one on Amazon (US Games, I think), another more expensive one because of shipping on Etsy, and another couple of places that sell the deck. Do you think there would be a difference in quality? Thanks again for your much appreciated help! Anne :)

You are welcome. Be careful with Amazon, as there are a lot of frauds on there. Unless it's directly from the company that produces it, pass. If the price is too good to be true, it's a fake. Also, with Amazon deck arrived damaged more time than not. Now they ship cards in paper envelopes with no protection. It's insane. I have to return them due to damaged cards, boxes, etc... Barnes and Noble is no longer good unless you pick it up in person. I bought the deck from U.S. Games direct.

You'll pick it up. I would start looking at each card and write down what I think it means. Just bullet points for now. Then open the booklet that comes with it, or get a book and check yourself. Never go to the book first unless you are drawing a blank. This way you test yourself. Engage in community challenges. I am unsure if I will keep them on Facebook or move them here; still up in the air. I grab some cards and then ask others to give their take on it. It also helps to learn. As long as it is a real US games deck, it will be of good quality. I'd pass on Etsy for mainstream decks. You must be careful, as you can't trust the sellers, and they overcharge. I only buy indie decks on Etsy from the creators directly. If it is a known available deck, always go with the distributor. I buy from US Games, Llewellyn, and Hay House. And if I see a deck on Amazon, I find who published it and buy it direct. I have returned too many decks from Amazon because of damage.

Please ping me anytime with any questions you have. It can be tough getting back into it. I read many books, but I also have a deep/extensive background in numerology and Hebrew, and that's what brought me to Tarot.

Thanks so much, Kev. I look forward to ramping up my learning. Luckily, the Albano-Waite deck I was gifted from Amazon was a US Games deck, but your caution noted. Looking forward to upgrading my subscription soon! Thanks again so much! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»
