Stop Stressing And Just Submit The Piece

And Let Nature Take Its Course

How many times have we, as writers, written a piece for submission and then agonized over submitting it, making ourselves sick?

This scenario reminds me of the Nine of Swords—the torment we bring on ourselves.

As long as we know, we did everything right,

• proper grammar,

• a nice opening,

• followed the guidelines,

• and created a killer ending,

there’s no need to worry about the what if’s. We just need to move forward. Pull the work back out of the drawer, fill out the submission form, and let it rip.

Why? Because there’s no need to worry about events out of our control (Judgement reversed). When we do, we create self-inflicted agony, worry, and anxiety (Nine of Swords). It destroys any chance we have at publication. Remember this one important fact. If we never send our work out into the world, we’ll never know if it’s good enough or not.

Instead of all this self-inflicted writer affliction, take a chance. Because at the end of the day (Judgment card reversed), we have no control over how an editor will perceive our work. All we need to do is lighten up, remove our fears, go with the flow, and enjoy the process.

And when we do, I promise you, we’ll have peace of mind (Four of Swords). Harmony will embrace us because of the effort we put into our masterpieces. We know we did our best.

And in all honesty, what’s the worst thing that can happen? We get rejected. Yeah, so what? This isn’t a bad thing. It allows us to learn. And the next time around, we’ll produce stronger work ripe for publication. But only after we take a little time and reflect.

Then we’ll conjure up our next story and watch the fruits of our labor shine!
