I replayed today’s events a thousand times, and nothing makes sense.
Woke up at six fifty-five, got dressed, and headed to work. Nothing out of the ordinary, a typical day. I turned left at Fifth and Madison and stopped at the light. Mundane, I know. And out of nowhere, red and blue lights flashing in the rear-view mirror. I pulled over to let the policeman pass. Instead, the officer jumps out of his car and smashes my passenger side window. I screamed at the top of my lungs, “Officer, this is a mistake. I came to a complete stop as the light changed, then pulled over to let you pass.”
