1940, two days before Thanksgiving, prisoners throughout the Russian Gulags plan their escape. They group into parties of three: a food carrier, a cook, and a butcher. Once the clock strikes twelve, the exodus begins. Teams bolt in all directions. Gunfire explodes throughout the camps.
Many make it to the tree lines; others fall dead before they cross the barbwire’s dead zone. The night air fills with cries of death. And for those who made it to freedom, tears of joy.
